Blow Up

Blow Up

Blow up [by Camel Games] offers you a chance to blow shit up and makes you think a bit while you’re doing it, which personally I enjoy a lot. The game looks and feels great, but the sounds are just barely related to the actions which they accompany. Explosions sound like gun shots for some reason and even though there are 3 types of bombs they all sound like the same gun is being fired. A simple “Boooo!” would have been better than the sound of a snow storm as the “You lose” sound. Thank god you can listen to your music and play it with the sounds turned off.

The game is simple to understand and hard stop playing. Basically, you have to blow up a house built out of wood and/ or iron with a panda bear toy inside. The trick is to make the debris fall under the dotted line.

The height of the demolished house is measured by a horizontal green line. The lower it goes the more points you get. If you can make the panda bear hit the star on it’s way down, you’ll get even more points and will here the only sound in this game which is spot on. Your ammunition includes a small pack of dynamite, a bigger pack of dynamite and an implosion bomb. The implosion bomb uses the same principle as the self destruction bomb in the Resident Evil Afterlife movie, except that the explosion is not blue and is a lot smaller.

All bombs have a timer which can be activated by tapping the bomb and is used to control the demolition of the house.

All houses are completely different and you can actually see the logical thought behind the architecture. There are a lot of levels in the free demo of the game which will be enough to get you hooked.

After you get a hang of the game and learn to use the explosives properly, you’ll be able to get a higher score and compete with other players using the High Score system. But be warned that most people in the top list bought the game and therefore were able to get more points by completing all levels.

I’ve been playing this game for a couple of months now and it is still fun. Constant updates are coming out with actual game play fixes so in spite of the hopefully soon to be replaced sounds, Blow up is definitely a must play or at least a must try game.
