Cestos is one of the first multi-player games for android (if not the first, actually), developed by Chicken Brick Studios. The game is quite simple – you have to knock your opponent’s marbles in pits and don’t let your own fall. Game is turn based, the turns are simultaneous. Basic stage, “Black Hole”, is intended for 1v1 action and players get 3 marbles each. Some maps can support up to 4 players playing at once.
Tap Play, wait a few seconds, and you are now matched with an enemy. As you notice from the screenshot above, your “avatars” are customizable, and you will get more options to choose from as you get more experience and level-up.
Each round you have to set vector of your marble’s movement, you have a limited time to do that, and when you are set tap the screen with 2 fingers and wait (if needed) for your opponent to finish their move. To move your marble you need to specify trajectory and velocity with a finger swipe from your marble in desired direction. Don’t set any directory to stay on your place. Notice that if a marble is moved, on the place where is was appears a mine, that will explode if any marble will collide with it and mess up your trajectory.
After a few minutes, of my game I got just a little bit bored. I guess it is because I am not used to waiting for a turn when I am playing on my Android device – most other games are constant action. But when you are matched with an enemy who is quite experienced – there seems to be no problem with that, they make moves very fast, and you should adjust too. There is also a fast-paced map available, more on that later.
There are different maps available to play, most require different strategy. But there are two that stand out. On Speedball you will get 2 marbles, you have less time to make a move and after the move is made marbles will go faster. There are 4 holes, one in each corner. This is my favorite map in this game.
Game has also social layer to it. You can edit your “avatar” with more items the bigger levels you are, you can also chat within game and add friends, or ignore foes.
What I like:
- Online multi-player action
- Ability to chat in-game
- Customizable image
What I dislike:
- Turn-based game gets you anxious, especially at the end of the game!
NB! New version of the game, Cestos 2 has been recently released and is available in Android Market, we will review it soon!
